Direct and consignment
The setting that decides what a shop is charged for. Worth reading once.
Each shop is either direct or consignment. This is the single most confusing setting in the app, because it changes what the shop is billed for — not just when they pay.
On a direct shop, the owner buys the stock from us. They are charged for what we deliver. Leave twelve, they owe for twelve.
On a consignment shop, the owner pays only for what actually sells. They are charged for what has gone since the last visit — the stock we recorded last time, minus what is still on the shelf now. What we deliver today does not affect this visit's bill at all.
That last sentence catches people out. On a consignment shop you can change the delivered quantity and watch the amount owed sit perfectly still, and conclude the app is broken. It isn't: you are looking at what sold, which the delivered figure has nothing to do with. The delivery screen says which basis it is using, next to the amount.
Free replacements are never charged under either type. Damaged or expired stock swapped out costs the shop nothing.
If a shop is on the wrong type, the bills will be wrong in a way that looks like an arithmetic error. Check this setting first when an amount is disputed.
